LEGISLATOR FERRETTI SPONSORS
RED LIGHT CAMERA SIGNAGE LEGISLATION
Nassau County Legislator John Ferretti and the Nassau County Legislature Committees passed legislation which requires all red light camera intersections to have signage that indicates the presence of the cameras, and specifies the exact location drivers must stop.
“The sole purpose of the red light camera program must be to make our roads safer for drivers,” Legislator Ferretti said. “We must make it abundantly clear to drivers which intersections are monitored by red light cameras and where drivers must make a complete stop prior to making a right on red. This new legislation will require signage so drivers know there are cameras, and know exactly where to stop prior to making a right on red, which should help to eliminate unfair tickets from being issued.”
Tickets are issued if a driver does not make a full stop before making a legal right turn on red, or if they drive through an intersection at a red light. The legislation is expected to pass the full legislature at the next meeting.
