FERRETTI ANNOUNCES RENAMING

OF “ELEANOR ROOSEVELT WAY”

Nassau County Legislator John R. Ferretti, Jr. announced the plan to rename part of Salisbury Park Drive in Salisbury as “Eleanor Roosevelt Way.” The site of one of Eleanor Roosevelt’s childhood homes stood at the intersection of Salisbury Park Drive and Westbury Road.

Local resident and historian Adam Sackowitz brought the idea to Legislator Ferretti’s attention as a way of increasing awareness about the former First Lady’s time in Nassau County.

“Eleanor Roosevelt is one of the most famous first ladies in American History. She was an early voice in the civil rights movement and an advocate for women, bringing unprecedented activism to the role of First Lady,” said Legislator Ferretti. “Residents should be aware of the time she spent in Nassau County, and I’d like to thank Mr. Sackowitz from bringing this matter to my office.”

Roosevelt lived in the now demolished house, known as Halfway Nirvana, from 1888 until 1892. A formal dedication will take place on October 11th at 1:00 PM.
