[ARCHIVED] County Legislature Passes New Law Improving Nassau County’s Sexual Harassment Policy

Nassau County Legislator John R. Ferretti, Jr and the Nassau County Legislature has passed legislation enhancing Nassau County’s existing sexual harassment policies and protections. The Legislature acted in response to the disclosure of numerous sexual harassment complaints and allegations throughout the nation.

The new legislation requires the following: Dissemination of the county’s sexual harassment policy to Nassau County employees, updating the sexual harassment policy, online training of Nassau County employees, and reporting of incidents of sexual harassment to the Nassau County Legislature’s leaders. Pursuant to this legislation, all necessary steps must be taken to maintain the confidentiality of the identity of any Nassau County employee who reports an incident of sexual harassment.

“This legislation will help with our ongoing effort to combat sexual harassment in Nassau County,” Legislator Ferretti said. “There is no place for this disgusting behavior in government or Nassau County.”

The Nassau County Legislature greatly values the county’s hardworking employees. The new legislation sends a message that sexual harassment in the county workplace will not be tolerated.
