The “33rd Annual National Night Out” (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event took place in thousands of communities nationwide on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 and locally was held at Town Square, Veteran’s Memorial Park, East Meadow.
Sponsored by Presiding Officer Norma L. Gonsalves and Nassau County Acting Police Commissioner Thomas C. Krumpter together with representatives of the Nassau County Police Departments, National Night Out is designed to: 1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; 2) generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; 3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and 4) send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The program was geared towards “Child Safety.” The event featured the Nassau County Police Department Young Explorers Program who offered free Child I.D. Kits with Kid Pics, information was on hand from the R.E.A.C.H. (Return Every Adult & Child Home) Program, NuHealth, ADT Securities Services, Megan’s Law, and representatives from the Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad provided a demonstration of the Nassau County Arson Robot.
MPG Entertainment served light refreshments; Annabel’s Entertainment gave a great magic show & made balloon animals; the Amateur Observer’s Society of New York was as on hand & face painting was offered by, “The Way We Wear Our Hats.” Educational literature on Child Safety, Personal and Property Safety, Internet Safety and Drug Prevention were provided. Representatives from the Precincts POP units were also on hand to answer questions on public safety. A candle lighting ceremony was then observed.
