Nassau County Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves joined with Legislator Laura Schaefer, Stop and Shop Supermarket Co., students from Long Island Lutheran Middle School and the Solomon Schechter School, and leaders of the Jewish community to donate nearly 1,000 pounds of kosher food to a local food pantry. The donations, which include matzo, grape juice, farfel, and gefilte fish, will help families in need during Passover.
“It is important to especially remember that among those who need our help to put food on the table, there are those who have special restrictions to what they can and cannot eat,” said Legislator Gonsalves. “No one should have to make a choice between adhering to their faith and going hungry, especially during the holiday season when Kosher food can be even more expensive.”
Representatives were present from the Alix Rubinger Kosher Food Pantry, an all-volunteer organization run by Congregation Beth-El in Massapequa, to collect and distribute the food.
