Presiding Officer Norma L. Gonsalves (R-East Meadow, LD 13) recently attended Boy Scout Troop 123’s Eagle Court of Honor for Eagle Scouts Michael Walsh and Billy Nolan held at the Calvary Lutheran Church in East Meadow. Presiding Officer Gonsalves presented each with a Nassau County Citation in honor of their achievement. For his project, Michael renovated the faculty lounge at the Genesis School for Autism in East Meadow. The faculty did not have a comfortable space to relax and decompress from their duties as teachers and teacher’s aides. Michael coordinated the painting of the space, the construction of a countertop and cabinets, and refinishing closets for the faculty’s use. Billy, for his project, built a covered bulletin board/information center for the fishermen at Norman J. Levy preserve in Merrick. The information center will enhance the patrons’ experience as they better understand the area they would be fishing in as well as allow the park rangers to post rules, regulations and upcoming events. Billy also organized a cleanup of the area and added rod holders to the pier.
“The projects that Michael and Billy undertook displayed their dedication to the Scouts as well as their community,” said Presiding Officer Gonsalves. “Both of these projects will go a long way in helping their fellow community members’ quality of life. I wish them best of luck in their future endeavors.”
