(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) was a featured speaker at “Crisis in Haiti – The Plague of Escalating Violence” on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Organized by Dr. Yveline Dalmacy, Esq. and the United Nations Committee of the New York City Bar Association, the panel discussion focused on identifying policy solutions for how Haiti can address the political instability, economic hardships and gang violence that impeded Haiti’s recovery in recent years. With his 2011 electoral victory, Legislator Solages became the first Haitian American to serve in the Nassau County Legislature.
“The rising violence in Haiti is a humanitarian crisis, and I will not stop using my voice to tell the world about it,” Legislator Solages said. “While Haiti faces tremendous challenges in this moment, there is a path to a prosperous and stable future if we become a part of the solution and rally behind the cause of promoting peace and security, supporting sustainable development, and advancing human rights and the rule of law. I thank Dr. Dalmacy and United Nations Committee of the New York City Bar Association for inviting me to be a part of this vital conversation.
