(HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) honored Eagle Scout Quincy Velez of Franklin Square Scouts Troop 485 during a Court of Honor ceremony at Hempstead’s Destiny Cathedral on Sunday, Jan. 5. During the ceremony, Legislator Solages presented a Nassau County Legislature Citation to Velez in recognition of the accomplishments and community service that earned him the highest rank in Scouting.
Velez, an Elmont native who has been involved in Scouting since childhood, spearheaded the refurbishment of Desitny Cathedral’s prayer garden for his Eagle project.
“Becoming an Eagle scout is a significant and commendable accomplishment that requires tremendous dedication and a commitment to public service,” Legislator Solages said. “Quincy is a great example of what can be achieved when you work hard and stay focused, and it was a pleasure to celebrate his ascent to the pinnacle of Scouting with his family – including his mother, Elmont School Board member Lynette Battle – looking on. I wish Quincy all the best in his future endeavors and look forward to working with him to beautify our community through future service projects.”
