Mineola, NY — The Nassau County Department of Health (NCDOH) proudly joins the nationwide celebration of National Public Health Week (April 7–13, 2025), embracing this year’s theme, 'It Starts Here,' to honor 30 years of advancing community health. In honor of this important week, we are proud to announce that NCDOH has achieved national reaccreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) — a reflection of our unwavering commitment to quality, performance, and excellence in serving our community.
Originally designated in 2017, NCDOH was the first large county health department in New York State to earn PHAB accreditation, and remains one of the few nationwide to continue meeting these rigorous national standards.
"Nassau County is proud to reaffirm our commitment to excellence in public health as we celebrate National Public Health Week," said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman. "The reaccreditation of our Department of Health highlights our ongoing dedication to the well-being of our residents and the hard work that has been done to make Nassau one of the healthiest counties in the nation."
“This reaccreditation is a reflection of the dedication of our public health staff,” said Nassau County Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman “Our team leads with passion and professionalism, protecting the health and well-being of all Nassau County residents. Public health is a public good, and together we’re creating a healthier future. Being recognized as one of the healthiest counties in the nation affirms that our collective efforts are making a real impact.”
Public health is always in motion, from ensuring clean drinking water and safe food to preventing illness and supporting emergency preparedness. We are proud of the collaborations we’ve built with local hospitals, schools, and community organizations, and we are grateful to Nassau County residents for trusting us to fulfill our mission.
