Mineola, NY – Due to a loss of water pressure caused by a water main break in the Liberty New York Water System, Nassau County Department of Health has ordered Liberty New York Water to issue a Boil Water Notice to their customers in the following communities: Baldwin, Island Park, Oceanside, Roosevelt, and South Hempstead.
Affected consumers of Liberty New York Water are strongly advised not to drink the water without boiling it first. Consumers are advised to bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use NYSDOH-certified bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Discard any ice made today and turn off ice makers.
Customers should:
- Fill a pot with water.
- Heat the water until bubbles come quickly from the bottom of the pot to the top.
- Keep heating the water for one more minute.
- Turn off the heat source and let the water cool.
- Pour water into a clean, sanitized container with a cover for storage.
Customers should use boiled water that has cooled or bottled water for:
- Drinking
- Brushing teeth
- Washing fruits and vegetables
- Preparing food and baby formula
- Making ice
- Giving to pets
When a loss of water pressure occurs, there is potential that conditions could allow for contaminants or bacteria to enter the water distribution system. This boil water notice is a precaution. To limit risk, customers should follow the instructions contained in this Release. Liberty New York Water is conducting water sampling and the boil water notice will remain in effect until results confirm that the water is safe to consume.
