Mineola, NY---On April 24th, the Nassau County Legislature honored 7th Precinct Nassau County Police Officer Nicole Winter as Top Cop for the month of April. Officer Winter was off duty when she saved the life of a man in the middle of cardiac arrest.
On March 16th, Officer Winter was waiting for a flight at JFK Airport Terminal 4 and was planning on beginning her vacation. While there, she heard a woman yelling for help and pointing to a crowd of people. She then saw an elderly man lying on the floor, unresponsive. Officer Winter checked his pulse and determined he had suffered cardiac arrest. She began CPR and yelled for someone to get an AED machine. After 3 rounds of CPR, she used the AED on the victim and administered two shocks. After the second shock, the victim began gasping for air. Officer Winter checked his pulse and it had returned slightly. Port Authority Officers and EMS arrived and took the victim to get further medical treatment.
“Our Nassau County Police Officers work tirelessly to help anyone they can…even when they are on vacation!,” Legislator Rose Marie Walker said. “Because of Officer Winter’s quick action and dedication to her job, she was able to save the life of this man. For our officers, the job does not stop at the end of the workday. Thank you, Officer Winter, and thank you to all our great NCPD officers for all you do!”
