Legislator Rose Marie Walker joined with the Nassau County Legislature to honor 3 police officers who arrested a dangerous suspect that had committed numerous crimes, including attempted murder and robbery.

On February 28th, Bureau of Special Operations Officers Robert Psomas and Michael Sierzant noticed a black Dodge Charger that matched the description of a vehicle used in an armed robbery. A license plate check revealed that the vehicle was stolen, and the officers knew that the occupant was potentially armed and dangerous. The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and eventually crashed during the pursuit. As the officers exited their vehicle, the occupant of the car fired two shots at them, striking the police car. The subject refused to give up the weapon and surrender and began to drive his damaged vehicle in an aggressive manner. As First Precinct Officers arrived on the scene, the driver exited the vehicle and again fired his weapon at the Officers before fleeing on foot.  BSO conducted a yard-to-yard search.  Lt. Daniel Delargy found the gunman and ordered him to drop his weapon. This time, the suspect complied and was arrested.  He was charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, a separate charge of attempted murder in Hempstead, and armed robbery, among other charges.

“Our police officers put their lives on the line every day,” Legislator Walker said. “This suspect in this instance shot at them.  Fortunately, they were not hurt.  I am thankful for the brave men and women in the Nassau County Police Department for keeping us safe.”
