(GREAT NECK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) thanked the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District for spearheading a successful COVID-safe “Shed-The-Meds” event at their East Shore Road location on Sunday, Oct. 24. During this drive-through drop-off, residents had the opportunity to securely dispose of unwanted and/or expired medication.
After disposing of their unwanted medications, participants received free bottles of hand sanitizer that were provided by Legislator Birnbaum’s office. The event was presented with additional support from New York State Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti, Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Veronica Lurvey, the Great Neck Key Club, Reach Out America and the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition.
“Shed the Meds events are a simple way that we can simultaneously protect the environment and reduce opportunities for prescription drug abuse,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I applaud the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District and their community partners for their ongoing efforts to provide residents with a secure and COVID-safe way to dispose of unneeded medication.”
