Legislator Birnbaum Commemorates 20th Anniversary of 9/11
(MULTIPLE LOCATIONS - NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum commemorated the 20th anniversary of 9/11 by joining the community at multiple ceremonies held in the 10th Legislative District and across Nassau County.
Legislator Birnbaum attended Nassau County’s 20th anniversary remembrance and recitation of names ceremony at Eisenhower Park on Thursday, Sept. 9. During the ceremony, a First Responders Memorial was unveiled as a lasting tribute to the Nassau County first responders who succumbed to the 9/11-related illnesses they sustained while responding to the aftermath of the terror attacks.
In the days that followed, she attended a memorial service on the 9/11 Memorial Bridge, which connects Saddle Rock and Kings Point, hosted by Temple Israel of Great Neck on Friday, Sept. 10; and the Town of North Hempstead’s Sept. 11 Memorial Service at Manhasset Valley Park as well as the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company’s ceremony at Jonathan L. Ielpi Firefighters Park, both on Saturday, Sept. 11.
“It was especially meaningful to hear the recitation of the names of the Nassau County residents who we lost 20 years ago and a privilege to honor and thank all of the remarkable first responders who lost their lives while working frantically and heroically to save others,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “It is my hope that we will preserve their legacy and never forget their sacrifice in the days and years ahead of us.”
