Legislator Birnbaum Joins National Night Out Celebration at Manhassets Whitney Pond Park

(MANHASSET, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) visited Manhasset’s Whitney Pond Park on Tuesday, Aug. 3 to celebrate National Night Out in the 10th Legislative District.

Held in thousands of communities each year on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is an initiative that seeks to promote “police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.” National Night Out enhances relationships between law enforcement and communities by bringing police and residents together in a fun, welcoming atmosphere.

Legislator Birnbaum, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Nassau County Police Department Commissioner Patrick Ryder joined their colleagues in State and Town government at the event, which featured the Nassau County Police Department’s Sixth Precinct’s Commanding and Deputy Commanding Officers; its POP Unit, Mounted Unit. The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office was also on hand.

During the afternoon of family-friendly activities and attractions, there was free food, music, giveaways, informational materials, local community vendors and more available for all ages. Representatives from the Nassau County Board of Elections were on hand to demonstrate voting machines and register residents to vote, and the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department brought its trucks and fire hats and bookmarks for youngsters.

“Here in Nassau County and all over the United States, National Night Out is a wonderful opportunity for our residents to build bonds with the law enforcement professionals and first responders who serve and protect our neighborhoods,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I am thankful for the leaders of the Sixth Precinct and our community partners for their efforts to make this year’s event such a great success.”
