(NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) presented her Nassau County Legislative Student Citizenship Award to Herricks High School senior Heba Ahmed during a ceremony on Friday, June 11.
Ms. Ahmed, a National Honor Society member and AP scholar, has distinguished herself as a leader in her school community through her service as President and former Treasurer of the Herricks Muslim Student Association, and Public Relations Officer and Dance Crew team member of the Herricks Dance Theater Club. Outside of school, she is active at the North Shore Islamic Center, where she educates students in elementary and middle school about the Quran and the history of Islam.
“Heba Ahmed’s devotion to uplifting the community shines through in her academic achievements, her support of the Herricks Dance Theater Club, and her commitment to providing young people with a solid historic and educational foundation about the Islamic faith,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I’m delighted to recognize her for all she has already accomplished and am eager to see the impact she will have as she embarks upon the next chapter of her life.”
