[ARCHIVED] Birnbaum Attends Interfaith Candlelight Vigil for Atlanta Victims and All Victims of Hate

Legislator Birnbaum - Interfaith Atlanta Vigil

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) on Thursday, April 1 gathered with her colleagues in government and leaders from across Nassau County for an interfaith candlelight vigil on the front steps of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building. During the vigil, which was spearheaded by the Chinese American Association of North Hempstead, the Long Island chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans, the Great Neck Chinese Association, and the Nassau County Office of Asian American Affairs, attendees remembered the lives lost during the March 16, 2021 shootings in Atlanta, Georgia and paid tribute to all victims of hate.

“At a time when violent hate crimes targeting Asian Americans have horrified Nassau County and the nation, it is especially important to stand in solidarity with the AAPI community and say, with one voice, that enough is enough,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I’m thankful for the efforts of Nassau County’s Office of Asian American Affairs and all of the community organizations that came together to host this meaningful vigil.”
