(NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) visited Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park on Tuesday, Feb. 23 to ring in the Lunar New Year with the Joy Fu Chinese Senior Club.
Volunteers distributed goodie bags and snacks while offering well-wishes during the drive-through celebration heralding the arrival of the Year of the Ox. To ensure attendees are well prepared to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19, Legislator Birnbaum provided cloth masks that were included in the giveaways.
In addition, the Joy Fu Chinese Senior Club collected food which was donated to the Shelter Rock Food Pantry for distribution to those in need. The event was organized and operated by Club President Sham Gee, coordinators Teresa Louie and Betty Leong, Treasurer Rose Lowe, and a team of dedicated volunteers.
“The Joy Fu Chinese Senior Club should be commended for developing a program that captured the joyous spirit of the Lunar New Year while keeping guests safe,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “It was a pleasure to join them to celebrate the arrival of what I hope will be a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Ox.”
