Nassau County Legislature Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello joined with County Executive Laura Curran, other elected officials, community members and friends and family of Tuskegee Airman Lieutenant William M. Wheeler to dedicate a section of Charlies Lindbergh Blvd after the trailblazing World War II fighter pilot. In later years, Lieutenant Wheeler was an active member of the Hempstead community and Nassau County.
Presiding Officer Nicolello offered the following: “Lieutenant Wheeler was a fighter pilot in World War II, who served our nation with extraordinary courage and distinction. In later years, Lieutenant Wheeler was an active member of the Hempstead community and Nassau County. He was a true trailblazer, role model, and certainly worthy of this honor. His memory will live on forever in the community he loved.”
