(LOCUST VALLEY, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (Woodbury) joined Village of Bayville Mayor Bob De Natale and Danielle Turner, Ed.D., Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics for the Locust Valley Central School District to honor Locust Valley High School’s Girls Varsity basketball team on Monday, June 15 for winning the Nassau County Class A girls basketball title.
For the first time since 1999, Locust Valley’s girls basketball team won the Nassau County Class A championship, defeating Floral Park on March 7. Locust Valley was 23-0 and was looking forward to bringing home the New York State girls Class “A” championship. However, their season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the social-distancing ceremony, Legislator Lafazan also recognized class of 2020 graduate Gage DeNatale for capturing the Division II New York State wrestling championship in the 132-pound weight class.
“As a result of their dedication, discipline, and teamwork these young ladies were able to break through and capture the Nassau County Class A title for the first time in two decades,” said Legislator Lafazan. “It was my pleasure to recognize and honor the incredible achievement of these outstanding student athletes.”
