International Advocacy for Women
(GREAT NECK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) joined the Zonta Club of Greater Queens on Tuesday, Dec. 3 to celebrate the holiday season and commemorate the 100th anniversary of Zonta International and a century of its advocacy for women’s empowerment.
In addition to commemorating the Nov. 8, 1919 founding of Zonta International, the reception at Great Neck’s La Rotunda Restaurant featured guest speakers from Zonta International’s district leadership and a focus on the 16 Days Campaign against gender-based violence such as human trafficking and forced child marriages.
“Through a century of tireless advocacy, Zonta International has advanced the cause of gender equality by supporting initiatives that empower, liberate and protect women,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I applaud the Zonta Club of Greater Queens for its role in these achievements and thank them for their ongoing support of equality around the world and in our local communities.”
