WHAT - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) is scheduled to be a guest speaker at the second installment of the “Grandparent Power” series at Great Neck House.
Great Neck resident, author and lecturer Francine Spilke Epstein pitched the idea to Legislator Birnbaum, who recently became a new grandmother and was excited to partner with her and the Great Neck Park District to establish the free eight-week enrichment series. Grandparent Power is designed to address topics relevant to the mature stages of life and strengthen healthy communication and relationships with children and grandchildren in the digital age.
The Tuesday, Sept. 17 installment will focus on the topic of “when grandparents become the support system” and is designed to bring enlightenment, encouragement, and wisdom to help navigate a difficult time. Speakers include Dr. Andrew Roth, psychiatrist at Memorial Sloan Kettering; an interfaith clergy panel; and Legislator Birnbaum, who will present a summary of available Nassau County resources available when support is most needed.
During the first session, speakers from Great Neck’s Epic Enrichment Center and the Office of the Nassau County District Attorney presented a social media tutorial for grandparents.
