LEGISLATOR SCHAEFER UNVEILS NASSAU C.A.R.E.S. SMARTPHONE APP FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

Nassau County Legislator Laura Schaefer joined with Legislator Joshua Lafazan, Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder and County Executive Laura Curran to unveil the Nassau C.A.R.E.S. smartphone app. The app, available for free via both the App Store on iPhones and Google Play Store for Android devices, will provide residents with convenient access to information to help with substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery. This app is the result of bipartisan legislation approved by the Legislature to provide these services.

Among the features of the app include a directory of recovery and treatment services, a ZIP code searchable guide for treatment centers, a NARCAN training calendar, support hotline phone numbers, and links to other resources. A simple entering of ZIP code will provide the user with numerous facilities nearby and within traveling distance.

“Over the years too many people have died in Nassau County because they couldn’t get the help they needed,” Legislator Schaefer said. “This app is a step in the right direction towards providing assistance to those suffering from the disease of addiction and will go a long way in helping to eradicate the opioid crisis in Nassau County.”
