(HERRICKS, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) spoke about the role of the Nassau County government at a conference hosted by Herricks High School’s Model United Nations on Friday, May 24.
At a Model UN conference, students use their research, debate, and interpersonal skills to come up with innovative solutions to current or historical problems. The Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs Committee discussed LGBTQ+ rights, and the Disaster: NYC committee simulated a crisis-response team made up of NGOs and government organizations.
“By encouraging students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real world problem-solving, Model UN programs build important social bonds and enrich the educational experience,” Legislator Birnbaum. “I thank Davina Lee and Michelle Dong, the Secretary Generals of the Herricks Model UN, for inviting me to participate in this important event.”
