[ARCHIVED] Legislator Birnbaum Secures Funding for Energy-Efficient Upgrades to the Village of Great Neck

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) has secured passage of a $34,500 Community Revitalization Program (CRP) grant for the Village of Great Neck Plaza to apply toward purchasing and installing energy-efficient street lighting.County funding for the project, which was approved by the full Nassau County Legislature on Monday, May 20, will be provided through an intermunicipal agreement with the Village.

“Partnering with the Village of Great Neck Plaza on this initiative will reduce the Village’s energy use, promote public safety and enhance the desirability of what is already one of our most vibrant business communities,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “This is a wise investment that benefits Great Neck residents, business owners and visitors in many ways, and I am pleased to have secured funding for it.”

“Thanks to the efforts of Nassau County Legislator Ellen Birnbaum, the Village of Great Neck Plaza is pleased to be awarded $34,500 in Community Revitalization Program (CRP) funds to be utilized for upgrading our street lighting on Great Neck Road and South Station Plaza,” Great Neck Plaza Mayor Jean Celender said. “It will allow us to continue converting our outdated streetlights by purchasing and installing new updated energy-efficient light emitting diode (LED) fixtures. The CRP funds will help save the Village on our street lighting electric bills and maintenance, as well as achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions while providing improved illumination and safety for this area of the community.”
