(WILLISTON PARK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) attended Albertson/Herricks Troop 201’s Eagle Court of Honor at American Legion Post 144 in Williston Park on Sunday, May 19. She presented Nassau County Citations to new Eagle Scouts Peter Cuomo and Ryan Slattery in recognition of the accomplishments and community service that earned them the highest rank in Scouting.
Cuomo’s Eagle project resulted in improvements to the Fern Garden located at Clark Botanic Garden by building a 170-foot gravel pathway and border, planting 34 plants and revitalizing the surrounding garden area. The garden had previously been destroyed by storms and the flooding of a nearby pond.
For his Eagle Project, Slattery improved the Herricks Wrestling Team’s practice and competition facilities by building new scoring tables, replacing a bulletin board used for posting tournament brackets, creating a Herricks Wrestling sign and cleaning and reorganizing a team storage closet.
“Peter and Ryan have dedicated a great deal of their young lives to community service. They both earned this outstanding honor through hard work that is fueled by a deep desire to give back,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I’m proud to recognize these young men as they become Eagle Scouts and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”
