[ARCHIVED] Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum Secures $20,000 Grant to Enhance Great Neck Library’s Teen Cultural Art

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) secured a $20,000 grant through the County’s Hotel and Motel Tax fund to enhance the educational programs provided through Levels, the Great Neck Library’s teen cultural arts program.

The grant, which was approved by the full Nassau County Legislature on Monday, March 25, will be utilized to purchase new recording equipment that will be used in a professional-quality studio at the library, where patrons can learn how to use video equipment, a tricaster, record live shows, and run a control room. The equipment will also be utilized to produce and record teen-directed theatrical and musical productions.

Levels is a free, supervised teen center for students in the seventh grade through college that offers workshops in theatre, dance, art, music, video, puppetry, technology and more.

“Not only will this grant bolster the services provided by an outstanding youth enrichment program, it provides state-of-the-art resources that can unlock a young person’s passion for a rewarding career in media professions including broadcasting, cinematography, and production,” said Legislator Birnbaum. “I thank my colleagues for their continued support of programs that foster the comprehensive educational and cultural development of our youth.”
