(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D – Great Neck) welcomed students from Great Neck South High School to the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Students met with Legislator Birnbaum and her staff to discuss how local government works and learn more about local issues affecting their communities. The educational tour included a PowerPoint presentation on the history of the Nassau County Legislature, a visit to the Peter J. Schmitt Memorial Legislative Chamber, Legislator Birnbaum’s office and the County Executive’s office. Students received certificates in recognition of furthering their education about local government.
“It is important to educate our youth on how different levels of government can impact their
lives,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I hope I was able to intensify their interest in government and
expand their horizons during this visit to the Legislature.”
