(MINEOLA, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) was joined by friends and colleagues in government for a Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israel Independence Day event in the Ceremonial Chamber of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola on Thursday, April 26, 2018. In honor of Israel’s 70th birthday, Legislator Birnbaum invited Deputy Consul General of Israel in New York Amir Sagie to speak about the importance of Israeli-American relations. In addition to Legislator Birnbaum’s opening rermarks, the audience also heard from Jewish Community Relations Council – Long Island (JCRC-LI) Executive Director Mindy Perlmutter and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. Members of the Shireinu Choir of Long Island, directed by Deborah Tartell began the program with the American and Israeli national anthems and later provided entertainment with rousing musical selections.
“I thank everyone who was able to join me to celebrate Israel’s birthday, especially those who took active roles by speaking and providing music at the event. Israel has made so many great contributions to the world through technology, culture and medicine to name a few. It is important for everyone to appreciate the strong bond that our country shares with the State of Israel” said Legislator Birnbaum.
