(MINEOLA, NY) –Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) is pleased to announce that a bill she sponsored which would limit the term of an acting department head, was passed unanimously by the Nassau County Legislature at the December 18, 2017 meeting. Department heads who are selected by the Nassau County Executive to lead Nassau County departments, can only serve in an acting position for a maximum of six months without confirmation by the County Legislature. The Legislature can consider extending an acting department head for an additional six month period if requested by the County Executive. “I am so pleased that the Legislature approved this bill which will bring candidates to the Legislature to be vetted in a timely manner to determine if they are qualified. I am confident that this will result in strong individuals at the helm who will help lead Nassau County forward for the betterment of all of our residents” said Legislator Birnbaum.
