(MINEOLA, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) recently invited the Herricks High School Student Government to visit the Nassau County Legislative and Executive Building in Mineola to learn about how their County government works. Upon arrival, the students were given a presentation on the history of the Nassau County Legislature and participated in a panel discussion about the different jobs in government. Afterwards they were presented with an exercise in which they played the roles of legislators and constituents, discussing a given issue and coming to a resolution. Their visit also included a full tour of the legislative building. Legislator Birnbaum hopes this experience allowed the students to learn about government first hand and empowered them to become advocates for issues in their communities. She welcomes other students and scout troops in her district to contact her office at (516)571-6210 if they are interested in visiting the Legislature.
