Deputy Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello and the Nassau County Legislature recently passed legislation to make veterans of Operation Graphic Hand eligible for a property tax exemption. Operation Graphic Hand took place during late March and early April of 1970. President Nixon called upon the military services to assist the Post Office Department in maintaining essential postal services during a mass postal strike. Mail service in thirteen states was disrupted as some 200,000 of the 750,000 postal workers were off the job.
Eligible Veterans who wish to apply for this exemption from the county portion of their taxes must file by January 2, 2017 for the January 2018 tax bill.
