(MINEOLA, NY) –Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) and the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) participated in National Night Out on August 2, 2016 at Jonathan L. Ielpi Firefighters’ Park located on Grace Avenue in the Village of Great Neck Plaza. Legislator Birnbaum and members of the NCPD greeted the public at a table with giveaways such as coloring books, keychain lanyards, rulers, consumer action handbooks, public safety materials and more. The police helped distribute these free materials and were available to discuss public safety concerns and to provide helpful tips on how everyone can keep themselves safe. National Night Out is an annual event which in New York State is held on the first Tuesday of August. The goal of the event is to strengthen the bonds between the police and the communities they serve. “It is important for the public to meet members of the Nassau County Police Department so that people of all ages can become familiar with their officers in a comfortable setting. It is a great opportunity for the police to get to know the community better so that they can continue to provide excellent public safety services” said Legislator Birnbaum.
