(MINEOLA, NY) –Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) recently invited Girl Scout and Boy Scouts troops from her district to visit the Nassau County Legislature and learn about how their County government works. Upon arrival, the scouts received an audio-visual presentation on the history of Nassau County Government. Afterwards they were presented with an exercise in which they played the roles of legislators and constituents, discussing a given issue and coming to a resolution. Their visit also included a full tour of the legislative building given by Legislator Birnbaum. In addition, the scouts were invited back on a separate occasion to watch a meeting of the Legislature and witness government in action. Legislator Birnbaum hopes this experience allowed the scouts to learn about government first hand and empowered them to become advocates for issues in their communities. She welcomes other scout troops in her district to contact her office at (516)571-6210 if they are interested in visiting the Legislature.
