[ARCHIVED] Legislator Birnbaum Congratulates Finalists in Great Neck Library and Shelter Rock Public Library

(MINEOLA, NY) –Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) was proud to help honor the finalists in the "Woman on the New $10 Bill" Writing Contest sponsored by The American Association of University Women (North Shore Branch), Great Neck Library and Shelter Rock Public Library. To commemorate 100 years since the passage of the 19th Amendment, which secured for women the right to vote, the U.S. Treasury announced plans to put a woman on the $10 bill in 2020. In this writing competition, the students were asked to select an American woman who made outstanding contributions to our country and explain why she would be a good choice for the $10 bill. Some of the influential women that the students chose to write about included: Alice Paul Mary Edwards Walker and Eleanor Roosevelt. The three finalists in the Great Neck Library competition were: Emma Motelson, Andrew Apaza and Joyce Ann Lee. The three finalists in the Shelter Rock Public Library competition were: Jennifer Kim, Christopher Piccirillo and Lawson Everitt.
