Legislature Approves Funding for Garden City Park Fire District
(MINEOLA, NY) – The Garden City Park Fire District will receive funding from Nassau County as part of a Community Revitalization Project (“CRP”) for the purchase of an emergency medical utility vehicle. The request for funding was unanimously approved on Monday, October 20, 2014 during a full meeting of the Legislature. Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D-Great Neck) worked tirelessly with the Nassau County Executive’s office and Garden City Park Fire Department Chief Robert Mirabile to see that this project received funding through an inter-municipal agreement between Nassau County and the Garden City Park Fire District. This important project will improve public safety for all people in the Fire District. The small all-terrain vehicle can be equipped to carry two certified medical technicians with medical equipment and is typically used to transport a patient on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance or staging/triage area. The vehicle is often utilized in instances where an ambulance cannot be used such as at locations with large crowds or in areas with difficult terrain. The Fire District expects to use the vehicle at carnivals, festivals, concerts, and sporting events as well as other situations which require an on-site EMS presence.
“With the acquisition of this special vehicle, the Garden City Park Fire District will be able to provide the highest level of safety for the public” said Legislator Birnbaum.
