(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Prior to the Monday, Sept. 23 Legislature meeting, Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Siela A. Bynoe (D – Westbury) honored North Baldwin resident Christopher Borzor for the remarkable achievement of becoming an Olympian who competed for Haiti in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Qualifying for the men’s 100-meter race marked the culmination of a lifetime of athletic competition and dedication for the North Baldwin resident, who came to America with his family at age 6. He began his athletic pursuits with the Baldwin Blazers track club before joining the track team at the Lawrence Road Middle School in Hempstead. In high school, Borzor helped his team capture the Nassau County Class A title as part of Uniondale’s storied varsity track program, and he won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) championship amongst other honors.
Borzor later earned a track scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, where he became an All-American and set the school’s 100- and 200-meter indoor and outdoor records. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, he earned a master’s degree in Gerontology while running for the University of South Carolina, placing third in the PAC 12 and earning a second-team all-American berth.
Borzor, who currently holds the national 100-meter track record for Haiti, trained for the Olympics under the tutelage of former Olympian Nadine Faustin-Parker. Borzor is now preparing for next year’s World Athletics Championship in Tokyo.
“Chris is just another shining example of what we do best in this country – and that is allow immigrants to come in and do what they do best and allow that to shine,” Legislator Mulé said. “We are so proud of you, and we know that you are going to do really wonderful things from here on in.”
“Today is a great day when we get to celebrate all of your accolades in the sport of running, but also your academic success as well,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Bynoe said. “I am a first-generation American, and I have deep connections and roots to my parents’ home countries. I know it must be very special to be able to have two countries that are celebrating your success.”
