Legislator Lafazan, Mental Health Professionals Commemorate National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week
WHAT: According to newly released data from the Centers for Disease Control, suicide is now the second leading cause of death among young people between the ages 10-14 and 20-34.
In commemoration of September 10-16 as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (D – Woodbury) and mental health care professionals will raise awareness about the newly created 988 Suicide Crisis Lifeline and other mental health resources that are to assist individuals and families who are confronted with a mental health crisis.
In addition to providing information about suicide prevention resources, Legislator Lafazan will advocate for additional resources from the County’s federal remaining $269 million American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to be applied toward elevating our response to this ongoing public health crisis.
