(ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.) - To help young students begin the 2022-23 school year on the right foot, Nassau County Legislator Siela A. Bynoe (D - Westbury) joined with key community partners to host her annual back-to-school backpack event at the Tanglewood Preserve in Rockville Centre on Sunday, Aug. 14. More than 200 students of all ages received school supplies during the event, which were donated by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
In addition to school supplies, children received books from West Hempstead-based Moms Who Care, Inc. as part of their ongoing literacy-promoting initiatives. The Center for Science Teaching & Learning at Tanglewood Preserve hosted a snake and lizard presentation and provided youngsters free tours of its current exhibit. Lakeview’s branch of the NAACP and St. Paul A.M.E. Church of Lakeview provided snacks and drinks, and EZ Time Rental donated the use of a bouncy castle that young guests enjoyed throughout the event.
“It is tremendously fulfilling to collaborate with so many community partners that are deeply committed to the success and well-being of our youth,” Legislator Bynoe said. “We are gratified to Bethpage Federal Credit Union for their generous school supply donation, appreciative of the volunteer support from the Iota Theta Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, and thankful to Dr. Ray Ann Havasy and the Center for Science Teaching & Learning for again graciously hosting what has become an empowering back-to-school tradition in our community.”
