Mineola, NY— On February 28th, Legislator Laura Schaefer and the Nassau County Legislature honored two police officers as Top Cops who stopped a scammer who was preying on a senior citizen in Seaford. The doorbell camera video of the incident has since gone viral and has made national news.
On January 20th, a man tried to scam a senior citizen in Seaford by telling her that her grandson was in jail and needed $8,000 for bail. The scammer told her to put the money in an envelope, and a bail bondsman would come to her house to pick it up. Figuring this was a scam, she called the police, and Officers Brian Coleman and Michael Passarelli of the 7th Precinct came to her house and waited inside for the scammer to arrive. When he did, the Officers jumped out and tackled the scammer as he tried to flee.
“Thank you officers Passarelli and Coleman for stopping this scammer,” Legislator Schaefer said. “If you think you have been the victim of a scam, please call your local police department."
