[ARCHIVED] LEGISLATURE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC HEARING ON COUNTY PREPAREDNESS FOR POTENTIAL SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS

coronavirus

In the recent days, Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced two confirmed cases of Coronavirus in New York State, one in Manhattan and the other in Westchester. Last week, Nassau County Health Commissioner Larry Eisenstein reported that more than 80 people were being monitored for possibly having the Coronavirus in Nassau County.

In an effort to ease public anxiety and ensure Nassau County has the proper staffing, resources, procedures and protocols in place to contain and prevent the potential spread of the Coronavirus in the County, the Nassau County Legislature will hold a special hearing of the Health Committee on March 9th, at 10 AM in the Legislative Chamber. Legislators will question members of the County’s Office of Emergency Management and Health Department, on their preparedness and resources to deal with a potential outbreak in Nassau County. The public is also encouraged to attend and ask questions and air concerns. The hearing will also be livestreamed on the County website.

“By giving residents an update on the state of the County’s preparedness, it is my goal to ease anxiety and prevent misinformation from spreading through our communities.” Legislator Rose Marie Walker, the Chair of the Health Committee said. “The Legislature is committed to working closely with our colleagues at the Federal, State, and Local levels to secure any additional resources that might be identified as necessary.”
