[ARCHIVED] Legislator Joshua Lafazan Proposes Amendment to Nassau County’s Human Rights Law

Legislator Joshua Lafazan Proposes Amendment

to Nassau County’s Human Rights Law to Accommodate Individuals with Impaired Hearing

WHAT: Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (Woodbury) will unveil legislation that would amend the Nassau County Human Rights Law to clarify the reasonable accommodations available to employees or prospective employees with impaired hearing.

Filed on Friday, June 14, Legislator Lafazan’s proposal would amend the Human Rights Law to permit “persons with impaired hearing to use hearing aids and other such auxiliary aids to effectively make aurally-delivered information available to such persons.”

According to the National Association for the Deaf, it is estimated that 48 million Americans are deaf or hard of hearing. Legislator Lafazan’s proposal to amend the County’s Human Rights Law would ensure these individuals have access to the same opportunities as those who are not hearing impaired.
