(GREAT NECK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) honored the Zonta Club for a century of empowering women through service and advocacy.

During the autumn dinner meeting of the Zonta Club of Greater Queens in Great Neck on Tuesday, Oct. 23, Legislator Birnbaum presented a Nassau County certificate of recognition to the organization for its community service and efforts to uplift and advance the status of women.

“Zonta International, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year, works tirelessly to end violence against women and ensure girls around the world have equal access to education while enriching the lives of students and young professionals in our communities,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I am proud to honor the leaders of our local Zonta Club of Greater Queens and celebrate their important efforts to support women in every walk of life.”

"Ours is not to finish the task, but neither are we allowed to put it down," said Dr. Karen Siegel, Charter President of the Zonta Club of Greater Queens, citing teachings of the Pirkei Avot (ethics of our ancestors) in Judaism.
