Mineola, NY – Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau CountyDepartment of Health is issuing an advisory againstbathing at 14 beaches, effective today, June 24, 2017. This advisory isissued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwaterrunoff caused by heavy rainfall. Stormwater runoff can impact bathingwater quality by elevating bacteria levels, which may cause exceedances of theNew York State standard for bathing water quality.
In addition, Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing isclosed to bathing until further notice due to elevated bacterial levels,effective today, June 24,2017.
