While holding the line on property taxes, Legislator Donald MacKenzie and the Republican Majority have invested significant resources in the Nassau County Police Department to help keep our neighborhoods safe. Crime is down 27% since 2010 and residential burglaries are down 50%. FBI Statistics continually rank Nassau as one of the safest counties in America!
PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN IN SCHOOL
A new safety program provides school officials with a cellphone app to instantly contact the Police Department and local first responders in the event of an active shooter. Police can view floor plans, control remote door locks and view live footage from closed-circuit security cameras.
TECHNOLOGY PROTECTING YOU
Through advancements in technology, the Police Department has reduced crime to historic lows. Shotspotter technology helps detect and pinpoint locations of gunfire. License plate readers help catch criminals and enhanced communication equipment help our officers respond quicker.
WAR ON DRUGS
Whether heroin or pain pills, too many residents have lost their lives to addiction. We are combatting the epidemic through awareness, education, enforcement and treatment. The Police Department visits students to speak of the dangers of drugs. We have trained 8,000 residents to administer overdose reversal medication.
TAKING ILLEGAL GUNS OFF OUR STREETS
More than 4,000 illegal firearms have been removed from Nassau streets through a program which utilizes Police and DA asset forfeiture funds to purchase them from anonymous individuals.
