Nassau County Legislator Laura Schaefer recently joined with members of the Colonel Aaron Ogden Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution at a wreath laying ceremony at Eisenhower Park to honor our Vietnam Veterans.
The ceremony honored the Veterans of the Vietnam War and marked the 50th anniversary of the War in Vietnam.
The War in Vietnam was an especially divisive time for the country. Unfortunately a great deal of public ire fell on our men and women in uniform, who were often given a hostile reception upon their return home. In an effort to balance this unfortunate reality, the Dept. of Defense has formed the 50th Anniversary Commemorative. Their object is to help local community groups to recognize soldiers who served in the military during the Vietnam War and honor them for service to their country
Legislator Schaefer said, ““We must never forget the respect due our military. I am honored to be part of this ceremony to acknowledge our Vietnam veterans and all they have done for their country.”
