TO: Local media, community members, and supporters
WHO: Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe (D-Westbury)
WHAT: Legislator Siela Bynoe is pleased to announce that the Nassau University Medical Center Cancer Screening Van will be providing breast cancer screenings for women over fifty at the Hempstead Housing Authority.
Women with health insurance will be required to make a co-payment. The mammogram will be free for uninsured women, based on eligibility guidelines. “Early detection is the best prevention and having regular mammograms after age fifty is key to maintaining optimal health in women. Women do so much for so many and then put off doing for themselves. Make your appointment or remind the women in your life to make their appointment today. Remember, we can’t care for others unless we care for ourselves.” shares Legislator Siela Bynoe.
The screening will include a breast examination by a nurse, mammography, and instructions for breast self-examination. If it’s been at least a year since your last mammography and you are planning to receive an exam, you will need a prescription for the exam from your doctor (if you have insurance) and must provide any past exam films, if available. Women with health insurance will be required to make a co-payment. The mammography is free for uninsured women, based on eligibility guidelines
Mammography screening appointments are required and will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Anyone interested in having a mammography should call Legislator Bynoe’s office at (516) 571-6202 for additional details and medical requirements.
