LEGISLATOR GOETZ SERVES AS JUDGE FOR MOCK TRAIL CASE

Mock Trial

Mineola, NY— On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Nassau Supreme Court, Nassau County Legislator Samantha A. Goetz served as the judge on a mock trial court case between two elementary schools. These 4th & 5th grade students were from East Hills School in Roslyn Heights and Harbor Hill School in Greenvale.

The mock trial program was put together by Joshua Brookstein of the law firm SahnWard in Uniondale. The court case for this trial was a civil liability case, Lenny/Leni Loudmouth v. Yellowstone School, that involved the topic of the assumption of risk, which is a complex topic for even experienced lawyers to tackle. These impressive elementary school students served as the plaintiffs, defendants, witnesses, and lawyers for this court case, with both sides making advanced and percussive arguments for their side. After presiding over the courtroom and listening to the arguments of both sides, Legislator Goetz ultimately ruled in favor of the School District.

“I had the honor of seeing the 4th & 5th-grade students from East Hills School in Roslyn and Harbor Hill School in Greenvale tackle such a nuanced case on the civil assumption of risk with such enthusiasm,” Legislator Goetz said. “The talent, passion, and work ethic of these young students were truly astounding, and I can’t wait to see all of the amazing things that every one of them will accomplish!”
