[ARCHIVED] Legislative District 14 Update: 5/20/23

Legislative District 14 Update:

Dear Resident,

Below are several items of note that I wanted to bring to your attention:

  • On Friday, May 27, at 11:30 a.m., the Legislative Majority will co-host a press event with the Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage to honor Cold War veterans.  For 40 years, these military brethren kept the Cold War from becoming hot; a conflict that was always a trigger away from global nuclear destruction.  Until now, they never received due recognition for their courage and professionalism.  This ceremony, which will remedy that remission, will include the dedication of two Nike missiles, similar to those that defended New York from Soviet bombers during the Cold War.  We invite all veterans who manned the ramparts during those dangerous years to join us in this special program.  All Cold War veterans and their family members who wish to attend should RSVP to glewi@rubenstein.com  or through the museum’s website at www.museumofamericanarmor.com by clicking on the “Contact Us” tab in the upper right hand corner.

  • This past Wednesday, at the annual Police Memorial Ceremony, the Legislative Majority helped honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty, as well as all other department members who’ve recently passed.  This somber ceremony, held on the front lawn of the Nassau County Police Department headquarters in Mineola, paid tribute to six active officers and civilians with the Department who died from COVID and/or 9/11 related illnesses, along with 80 department retirees who passed away over the past 12 months. We can never thank our men and women in blue enough for all they do to keep our communities safe.  Remembering those who served and are no longer with us is the least we can do to recognize these heroes and bring some comfort to their families who have lost so much.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any thoughts and ideas you may have with respect to the County or on any particular issue that you think I may be able to assist you with.  You may contact me at (516) 571-6214 or by email at LSchaefer@NassauCountyNY.gov .

Sincerely,

Laura M. Schaefer
