Leadership training increases young people's knowledge of community institutions and prepares them to assume greater responsibilities in community life. Each agency receiving funds from the Nassau County Youth Board must incorporate the following priorities into their programs:
Youth participation in the design and carrying out of programs
Special attention to the concerns of limited English speaking populations
Issues of concern regarding runaway and homeless youth
Teen pregnancy, HIV / AIDS, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) prevention
Collaborations
Youth employment
Violence prevention / intervention
